Not an iphone in sight!
Some time ago I visited Runswick Bay with my art teacher daughter. We sketched and took some photographs but were increasingly drawn to the activities of a group of children who were totally immersed fishing for crabs in the rock pools. They did this for hours delighting in each other's successes and their concentration never wavered. They failed to hear (or ignored) their parents call to lunch and when eventually their dads were sent to tell them it was time to go they ended up joining their offspring in the hunt!
On the drive home we discussed what these children had actually been doing. They had used and practiced hand eye coordination skills. They had been taking constant exercise. They had worked as a team holding on to each other as they stretched increasing further for their quarry. Take a moment and add to the list yourself it is endless. Regardless they had a brilliant day. Perhaps we all need to take time out for ourselves to look in rock pools!
